Video games will be very boring without the presence of villainous characters that will make the lives of the main protagonists miserable. Villains are loyal to no one but themselves and any minions will betray their masters in the end but with dramatic consequences. Here are some of those characters who are only loyal to themselves and will use their masters for their survival and own ambitions.
Starscream of Transformers: War for Cybertron (Xbox 360, PS3)
Starscream is an iconic villain behind Megatron in pop culture. This Air Commander of the Decepticons is very committed to take the place of Megatron in a way too obvious for his master to know his intentions. Megatron has only kept Starscream due to his power and skills. If not for that, he’s a scrap metal now.
Kain Highwind of Final Fantasy 4 (DS, PSP, SNES)
Kain is the only character that wields his deadly weapon using the left hand and has proven his treachery twice. The first time is when he plunged his lance to his friend Cecil. However, that incident happened because he was brainwashed and he makes them believed that he got to his old self back only to betray his comrades.
Christie of Dead or Alive (3DS, Xbox 360)
Christie is the agent of Donovan, the tournament runner with villainous intentions. She pretends as Helena Douglas’ bodyguard who tried to kill her when she got the chance. But instead of killing Helena, she killed her mother accidentally. After that incident, Helena joined the tournament where she inflicted a savage blow against Donovan, Christie and the entire Doatec.
Sephirot of Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core (PlayStation)
Final fantasy 7’s plot revolves on the treachery of Sephirot on the SEPC and then he tried on destroying the world. His plot has started when he learned about his transhuman nature. He betrayed even his friends due to his zealousness to the science that created him.
Axel of Kingdom Hearts II (PlayStation 2)
Axel is a hot tempered Nobody who is equipped with flaming shurikens. This character fights the villains and the heroes while being as both, a villain and a hero. Axel has a conscience and provides brotherly affection to his younger comrade in arms, Xion and Roxas. Unfortunately for the two, Axel wants them close to him as he betrays Organization XIII. His attempt to get everything through betrayal has led to a consequential experience where he lost his friends. In the second installment of Kingdom Hearts, Axel sacrificed himself to save Roxas’ predecessor, Sora. Finally, Axel had done something truly genuine and heroic.
Al Mualim of Assassin’s Creed (PC, Xbox 360, PS3)
On the original game, Al Mualmi is the leader of the Assassins against the villainous Templars. He scolds Altair for his arrogance where he sacrificed the teachings of the Brotherhood. But this character was blinded by his belief where he secretly follows the Templar’s way of peace by totally controlling the world. He wants Eden’s Apple for himself and that’s what sets him apart from the Templars.
