Yes, but you seem to be missing the whole “it’s made in Japan” piece. Due to Japan’s… “unique” culture, essentially anything released there gets into its own J-genre (RPG, JRPG, Pop, J-Pop, Animation, Anime). The attitudes, themes and basically everything tends to be drastically different from anything western. Watch Anime and then watch a Cartoon and THEN tell me they’re interchangeable.
