In general, the Japanese video games of today’s generation is not well-received by the global audience especially those belonging to the role-playing games (RPGs) genre. But this reality does not mean that there is no Japanese RPGs worth playing. Prior to the approaching end of this generation, here is a rundown of the Japanese RPGs that are released on several consoles like Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3, PSP and DS.
Final Fantasy 13 on Xbox 360 and PS3
The unique battle system of Final Fantasy 13 makes this video game listed as one of those must-play Japanese RPGs. This video game has so many cut-scenes which are full of disagreeable characters and will cost you more time of build-up and tutorial before you unlock your potential ad in order for you to get through, you have to be very patient. But the extravagant journey to Gran Pulse and the fast paced wonderful strategic battles make this game a must-play video game.
Final Fantasy 13-2 Xbox 360 and PS3
The sequel of Final Fantasy 13 has pulled out the best elements in its predecessor and despite having some problems, this game runs faster and has helpful additional tweaks. Despite the terrible handling of the narrative standpoint-based time travel element, this video game contains great design which let players to travel back and forth in time and in different locations. Final Fantasy 13-2 is a more improved version of its predecessor which has an addictive collection system for monsters that will take you more time to unlock every achievement.
Demon’s Souls for PlayStation 3 and Dark Souls fro PS3 and Xbox 360
The Demon’s Souls has a different gameplay which is very risky and runs against the stream of those RPGs that are released by Sony in the United States nowadays. But despite the type of gameplay that this video game has, it is still a big hit. Dark Souls is another Japanese RPG which was published by Namco as the Sequel of the prior mentioned game which has grown bigger. These video games are not for everyone because they do not belong to the traditional RPGs in Japan. In spite of the diversion from the traditional Japanese RPGs, they still provide you with new gaming experience in today’s generation.
Blue Dragon for Xbox 360
Among the new game developers of today’s generation, Mistwalker is considered as the harbinger of hope for the Japanese RPGs. Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy is also the founder of this game developer. Although they do not have all the hits, this team has helped develop some of Japanese RPGs which are among the best in years. Blue Dragon is the first video game released by Mistwalker have a simple story with characters whose designs are not for everyone, but the gameplay which is very classic makes you appreciate this Japanese RPG.
The Japanese role-playing games are fun to play and you will wish to play more of these games. These games are awesome and very freakin’ good.
