    I have my own hardware but I thought this was just the same software which come with it, I just wanted the software cos it looks pretty good to edit on

    No. There’s a console version of this that costs more because of the hardware that comes with it.

    can the programme also record ps3/xbox footage if you have an external capture device (HD PVR)

    Yeah the downfalls of this program is you can’t record live commentary while playing and not all games (especially newer games like BF3, MW3, and SWTOR) are supported. However, unlike Fraps it comes with pretty decent video editing software. Honestly, I don’t even use this software anymore unless I do a commentary over the video. I use Fraps to record my games or desktop and Sony Vegas to edit my videos.

    The editor is really good but some minuses on the recorder. I think it would work either way. either you get more disk space or you could get it and still use fraps for recording if you want and use the editor to make the files smaller.
