Pretty much everyone in comics knows who Thor is. Even if they don’t read a single Marvel comic, they probably know who Thor is. But what do we know about Thor’s past? Most of his story starts from when he and Don Blake are joined on Earth, and everything goes from there. This book goes back to Thor’s teenage days, and the hijinx he got up to with the help of friends Balder and Sif. Across the initial 6 part arc, and then two 3 part arcs, Thor goes on a dangerous quest, tackles love and loss, battles his villainous brother Loki and the Goddess of Death, Hela, and fathoms the mind of the deadliest beast known to man…Women. I have a soft spot for books based on teenagers. Runaways, Avengers: The Initiative, Young Avengers, Avengers Academy, Teen Titans, you name it and I really, really like it. This is no exception. Taking the Thor mythos and adding in the everyday challenges that a teenager must face whilst hammering things with a sword and you hve a winning combination. The story arcs are fairly standard, but the added life lessons that Thor learns as he goes through add that icing on the cake that makes it enjoyable. Of course, you know that no one is going to die or mutate into a monster since Thor and friends are intact in the future, which is a problem with stories set in the past, but this doesn’t stop things being very interesting, and you’ll always be second guessing what’ll happen next.
