There is no doubt that Uncharted is one of the best IPs to be released in this current video game consoles. The video game features lush vegetation, amazing set-pieces and stellar dialogue which make it suitable for the PlayStation 3 console. The visuals on the video game are some examples of hardware where Sony is pushing it to the limits. Not just that, Nathan Drake became among the most recognizable and iconic video game heroes for the past five years.
However, the acclaimed franchise of Naughty Dog is not perfect as it also have its faults. Lots of gamers are flabbergasted by the three games and the handheld prequel, but Uncharted is not free from those flaws that lots of games nowadays are plagued with.
Dull and Repetitive Types of Enemy
The combat system of Uncharted is pretty fundamental but functional, combining tight controls and decent strategies. Though there is the glimmer of it as being original without spoiling anything until the end, the enemies of Drake lack variety and are dull. Aside from this, Nathan Drake spends most of his time battling endless hordes of mercenaries and pirates which make Uncharted boring. Compared to Tomb Raider I, Uncharted lacks enemy types unlike with Tomb Raider where there are various packs of enemies to fight. If you play this game, there is a big chance that you will get tired and sick of the monotony present in Uncharted.
Climbing is Easy
The precarious platforming of Nathan Drake is fun to watch. However, when it comes to the execution, it is insultingly simple, almost. Compared with Tomb Raider, the jumps in Uncharted which are meticulously timed are very easy to accomplish as the path is laid out to Nathan Drake. With this, gamers tend to be bored and feel that they are not taking any of those risks that make a game very exciting. He also can’t go wherever he likes as the game dictates where he should go. He will grab at anything just to climb, but he cannot, he will grasp the air. Uncharted is incredibly linear and restricting as you don’t have the freedom to do what you want.
Linearity
This article does not suggest that the game become what most gamers like, to be set in open-world, far from that idea. Naughty Dog pointed out that if the game takes the sandbox path, it would be detrimental to its trademark combination of tight pacing, linear and cinematic storytelling. But it seems that the video game has too much linearity for the game’s own good. For it to become more exciting, the environment of the game should be opened a bit more. When this happens, aside from providing gamers the opportunity to explore the stunning locations, but more essentially, make those treasures difficult to find. Scenes where you have to wander off the track just to explore the environment and find items are very rare in the video game. Naughty Dog should give Nathan Drake the opportunity to explore more in order not to make the game boring.
